Chinese female numbers stations
Mode: AM
Announcer: Mandarin Chinese (live and recorded)
Starts at H+00 and H+30
Powerful signal in Japan.
For example, in the case of Guangzhou
-Null message format (recorded voice)
All listening stations in the country. (x3)
This is Guangzhou calling. (x2)
Repeats above for approx. 5 mins.
Ends with “thanks”
-Message format (live voice)
All listening stations in the country. (x3)
This is Guangzhou calling. (x2)
Repeats above for approx. 5 mins.
There is a message, followed by a message number (x2), group count (2x), then 4FG’s (X2).
I’ll repeat a message.
I’ll repeat a message.
End of Transmission.
Thanks.
As far as I’ve heard, the message transmission is very rare.
Almost all are null message transmissions.
The Chinese female numbers can be divided into following three groups.
Group A, Guangzhou as ID, V09 and V16
6265, 6468, 6885, 7750 10750, 12012 and 13680kHz
Daily between 1500-1730z (East Asian midnight) frequently heard.
Occasionally two parallel transmissions can be heard, most frequently 6885//10750kHz.
V09 and V16 are same.
Group B, Beijing as ID, V22
4760, 6355, 6375, 6465, 8375, 9125, 10200, 10500, 15640, 16520, 16830, 16835, 17310, 18020 and 21450 kHz
Daily except East Asian Saturday on 8375kHz the carrier is continuously on between 1100-1700z. Repeats a null message for 30 mins intervals.
Usually non-parallel transmissions except 6465//8375kHz occasionaly at 1700z.
Sunday at 0000 or 0030z 16520kHz can be heard frequently.
Group C, three figure IDs, somewhere in China, without ENIMA code
6721, 6468, 6906, 8337, 8870, 11016, 11262, 11298, 12310, 12630, 12877, 13210, 13260, 14336, 14860, 15753, 15958, 16572, 18649 and 22305 kHz.

Hello SWLs,
Here is the frequency schedule for the new Japanese experimental
station JG2XA, extracted from the Internet bulletins of Wolfgang, DF5SX.
-------
JAPAN
I send you the infomation about the experimental SW stn JG2XA. As
I live in the neighbouring city, the transmission is well received:
University of Electronics & Communications, Chofu City, Tokyo
started experimental short wave transmissions for research of HF-band
Doppler-Shift(HFD). They had been using 5 & 8 MHz signals of former JJY,
which ended in March. They decided to set up their own SW stn for this
purpose. The new Shortwave station, call sign JG2XA, started regular
transmissions on July 3.
Frequencies: 5006 and 8006 (width 1.5 kHz) Power: 200 watt
Schedule: 24 hrs with continous unmodulated carrier, ID in Morse Code is
given at least every 30 mins as "JG2XA JG2XA JG2XA UEC HFD STATION" in H3A
mode.

Female
Sample transmission as follows
Carrier is on at approx. 10 mins before interval signal
Interval signal
The No.3285, sent twice
Please receive the message
Count 64
3+2FG's or 2+2FG's
For example reading about “34592”
“Three hundred forty five ninety two”
I'll repeat the message again

For example, “34592”
“Thirty four thousand five hundred ninety two”
That's all. Thanks.
Carrier is off immediately.
Usually single transmission without parallel tx.
6215kHz is most frequently used.
Occasionally similar but non-parallel tx is heard on these two freq.
Two parallel transmissions can be heard very occasionally.
6715kHz is very, very rarely used.
6215kHz is a worldwide maritime distress and safety freq.
The interval signals are various South Korean pop songs except for "the
General Kim Il Sung's song.
The female announcer's message is a very loud and distorted voice.
I've never heard QRH(drift) and spurious on these freq.
In literature about numbers stations such very strange reading of figures
can be found also in V08, the Eastern Music numbers.

D)The Eastern Music nbrs, V08
Spanish nbrs, pop song "Don't cry for me Argentina" にて始まる "WTR21" nbrs, "The Conet Project CD" に録音のものは彼氏のレコーディングと云う。
『This agency really must try harder.』、
『6645.0kHz 99/07/04, 03:00, AM, 48, The Eastern Music nbrs, ENIGMA code V8, hrd in AM at 1815. The carrier was on at 1800 UTC, characteristic Arabic-style instrumental music started at 1815 for 1 min, then into YL/Arabic nbrs, ended w/similar music for 10 sec at 1825. Sounded like a usual Arabic BC. Jammer and clandestine were busy on the same freq, but pretty good signal w/low modulation. First time I've ever encountered ENIGMA code V8. Able to record this stn in cassette tape and confirm using "the Conet Project CD". A lucky day.』
『6647.0kHz The Eastern Music station, ENIGMA V8, 00/01/09, 04:05, AM, 49. The Arabic/YL nbrs hrd in progress. Ended with Arabic music for 10 sec at 0429 JST. Pretty good signal but low modulation. This is 2nd Saturday of Jan.』
E) "The Magnetic Field" nbrs, E9
『It appears to then send a message for 44D, spoken (in poor English) as "Fourty Four Dee".』
YL/EE,w/phonetics,also noted on 8641 & 12747kHz.Ended w/“End of Message,end of trasmission"in AM(AM compatible reduced carrier USB mode) at 14:27.But carrier was still on,suddenly once“YHF"in phinetics at 14:29,then carrier was off.8641 & 12747kHz were normal operations.
The slot machine
The Cuban "atencion " numbers, V02,DGI, Cuban Intelligence
Recently it has been pretty hard to hear V02 and V02a, but 13374kHz can be heard regularly at 0700z every Sunday, which is approximately 6 in max signal strength but very low modulation.
『All stations, This is Guangzhou. We are waitng for your messages.』
Chinese female numbers, ENIGMA V22
22:00JSTより02:00までH+00/30に『All center stations, This is Beijing speaking.』

As befits an operation as legendary as the KGB, this family of stations is impressive in size and importance. The winding
up of the KGB in post Cold War Russia has done nothing to diminish the activity of this network. Here again is Langley
Pierce's description:
The name of the KGB is synonymous with spying, and since the ending of the Cold War and the breaking up of the old
Soviet Union, their activities have gained unprecedented exposure in the Western media. While, officially, their covert
activities have ceased, traffic continues to be sent out to their agents, though on a smaller scale!
The original size of the KGB's numbers network was comparable only to that of the CIA, and similar to the CIA, the KGB
located some of it's numbers stations outside of the Soviet Union in Warsaw Pact countries. This particular station transmits
in four languages; Russian, German, English and Spanish, using a mixture of male and female voices.
Format 1
1. Transmission Format
Preamble: 861 861 861 861 861
The preamble begins at ten-minute intervals beginning of the hour and is repeated for four minutes. 861 is a typical message
address identifier. If no traffic is to be broadcast then the preamble used is:
861 861 861 00000
Message: 734 734 80 80
42878 42878 35465 35465 77868 77868....
734 734 80 80
00000.
734 is most probably the positioning index, and 80 the group count.
Traffic is transmitted at 10 groups per minute and presented by computer synthesised male or female voices. The reasons
as to why English and Spanish broadcasts use a female voice, and Russian and German broadcasts use male voices is
unknown. Note that some English broadcasts use a male voice to replace the usual female voice. Pronunciation is mostly
standard in all four cases.
Russian Spanish
1. odyeen 6. shest 1. uno 6. seis
2. di-va 7. syem 2. dos 7. siete
3. tree 8. vossyeem 3 tres 8. otto
4. chyetiri 9. dyevyet 4. cuatro 9. nueve
5. pyat 0. noil 5. tinco 0. cero
German
1. eins 6. zechs
2. svo 7. zeiben
3. dri 8. acht
4. feir 9. noin
5. funf 0. noll
2. Additional Broadcasts. Aside from the usual format broadcasts, this station often repeatedly transmits single five digit
groups, such as 11444 and 00000. The exact purpose of these transmissions is unknown, however it can be assumed that
00000 means "No traffic." One possibility ventures that broadcasts of this type are identical to the SYN1755 15 type
MOSSAD broadcasts, which are used to relay single items of traffic to agents, thus the group 11444 may have meant
"There are ten new microfilms at the dead letter box."
A second interesting side note concerning this station is that a second voice has been used for some of the Russian
broadcasts. Its use is not predictable and is often used on a single day within a schedule. Such occurrences are believed to
be a sort of audio highlighting of the traffic, intended to draw specific attention to its "higher than normal priority traffic".
Similarly, a male voice has been noted replacing the female voice in some of the English broadcasts.
3. Transmission Schedule Similar to other Slavic stations such the that operated by the DIE, this station's scheduling is
undoubtedly obscure. However, a certain number of the Russian transmissions have been organised into an extremely
lengthy schedule. Broadcasts in this schedule are rebroadcast each day at the same time for five days, and then are off-air
for two, usually Fridays and Saturdays. One such schedule lasted well over six months, although during several weeks of
that period transmissions were not broadcast. Other transmissions have been heard exactly one year after first being heard,
an indication that some sort of schedule is in operation. Generally, broadcasts are repeated exactly 24 hours after first
being aired on exactly the same frequency.
The KGB connection seemed to be quite strong in some monitors minds, as one put it:I believe that all broadcasts that end
with the 00000 type sign-off are sent bythe KGB...."
And if that does not convince you that these transmissions are KGB sponsored, another monitor revealed:
"The transmitters used by the KGB for these numbers are the same ones they use
for stations like Radio Moscow World Service. Thai's why so many of the frequencies end in either 5 or 0 kHz!"
This last comment may not be so far from the truth! Judge it for yourself
4. Russian Operating Frequencies:
4650 kHz 6380 kHz 7520 kHz
4710kHz 6745kHz 7840kHz
4920 kHz 6806 kHz 8630 kHz
5521 kHz 6873 kHz 9085 kHz
5730kHz 6910kHz 9240kHz
7. German Operating Frequencies: Amplitude Modulation
10070 kHz
14408 kHz
Format 2
This next station broadcasts is Russian and English, and is believed to form part of the KGB's extensive communications
directorate.
1. Transmission Format: The preamble begins at ten minute intervals beginning
on the hour, and is repeated for five minutes. 221 is the message identifier, while
1 refers to the number of messages in the broadcast.
Preamble: 221 221 2211
Message: 196 65 196 65
50637 76381 27319 45224 73207 000 000.
196 is the one-time pad positioning index, and 65 the group count.
Traffic is presented at 10 groups per minute by a synthesised male voice in either Russian or English. Pronunciations
generally standard, however several monitors have commented on the presence of an Irish accent in the English
broadcasts.
Russian
1. adyeen 6. shest
2. dva 7. syem
3. tree 8. vossyeem
4. chyetiri 9. dyevyet
5. pyat 0. Noll
In the event that no traffic is available for transmission, the preamble reverts to the standard five minute "I have nothing for
you type broadcast:
"221 221 221 000"
A truly accurate schedule has never been obtained for either language broadcast and therefore it is often by chance that
one stumbles over a transmission.
3. English Operating Frequencies: Amplitude Modulation or Lower Sideband
6765 kHz 11422 kHz
6776 kHz 13205 kHz
6915kHz 20222 kHz
Format 3
The following three stations can only be tentatively to the KGB numbers network.
1. Transmission Format: The preamble contains a three digit message identifier and the number of messages in the
broadcast. It is repeated for five minutes and begins on the hour and 20, 30 and 40 minutes after the hour.
Preamble: 774 774 774 1
When no traffic is available for broadcast, the transmission reverts to the form:
Preamble: 137 137 137 000
Message: Achtung!
18653 52
18653 52
88501 65252 82625 91622 54844.... 000 000 Ende.
The number 18653 is the coded one-time pad start group, with the group count being represented by the number 52. Traffic
is presented at 10 groups minute by a German computer synthesised soft female voice. The accent is very definitely
German, although one gets the feel that one has heard this voice somewhere else, but as far as I can see, the voice is not
shared with any other station.
1. eins 6. sechs
2. tsvo 7. seiben
3. drei 8. acht
4. fier 9. noin
5. funnef 0. noIl
2. Transmission Schedule The following list is a very' limited overview of a much more extensive broadcast schedule,
however this list gives some idea of how the schedule is arranged.
The English Man Numbers, Russian Intelligence, Enigma code E6 or E7です。
o New Star Broadcasting Station.
author: Hans van den Boogert, Taipei, Taiwan
This is a report about the NEW STAR BROADCASTING STATION, or Xin Xing
Guangbo diantai in Mandarin Chinese. I have observed this station on
the following frequencies: 8300, 9725 and 11430, where the latter two
seem to be alternates both featuring the third program. Reception is
clear and strong local daytime here in Taiwan (2300-1000 UTC), but
hardly or not audible at night (1200-1600 UTC). I'm not a propagation
expert, so maybe somebody else could give some educated guesses about
a possible location.
New Star seems to have different services, or programs. Each frequency
identifies itself as "the third" or "the fourth" program ("di san tai"
or "di si tai"). Content is different, but program format is the same.
Broadcasts range from 5 to 40 minutes and I recorded a broadcast on
8300 kHz in October as typical case.
In order to save my energy I hereby give a list of Chinese cardinal
numbers. Ordinal numbers are formed by putting "di" in front of the
cardinal number.
Chinese numbers from 1-10:
1 = yi 7 = qi
2 = er 8 = ba
3 = san 9 = jiu
4 = si 10 = shi
5 = wu 20 = er-shi
6 = liu 26 = er-shi-liu
Transmission details:
Transmissions usually start at the hour, e.g. 0400, 0500, 0600, with
a traditional piece of Chinese music as interval signal, featuring a
flute. Once you hear it you never forget it. Usually two women are
featured: one for the general announcements, the other for the
messages. They are both recorded and this clearly shows in the coded
messages which suffer from lack of proper intonation. The outline of
the transmissions is as follows:
Station ID + program ID. An example:
[Here is New Star Broadcasting Station, the fourth program]
Call for particular units (danwei) that cables (dianbao) are coming.
These stations have 4 or 5 letter call-signs. Also indicated is the
month and number (...yue, ......th report) of the cables and how many
cable characters (dianwen) it consists off. An example:
.........you 5-3-2-5-3 danwei [.....for unit 5-3-2-5-3], shi yue fen
di yi hao dianbao [October 1st cable], yi fen dian bao dianwen 53 zi
[one cable, 53 characters]. You 4-4-7-1 danwei [for unit 4-4-7-1], shi
[one cable, 61 characters]. 5-3-2-5-3 danwei 4-4-7-1 danwei zhuyi
chaoshou [Unit 5-3-2-5-3, unit 4-4-7-1, stand by for reception].
This announcement is repeated a couple of times, with the interval
music in between. Then actual code transmissions begin, preceded by
this announcement:
[Here is New Star Broadcasting Station, the fourth program]
Xianzai women.... [Now we....]
kaishi..... [begin...]
baogao gei nin [with the reporting for you].
Qing nin zhuyi, zhunbei chaoshou. [Please stand by for reception]
Then the actual reading of numbers starts in this format, each
number repeated twice. If the cable is finished this is also announced:
9093 9033 8799 8799 9989 9989 1956 1956 4244 4244 3904 3904
9939 9939 8988 8988.
yishang shi gei 4-4-7-1 [The preceding was intended for unit
4-4-7-1], shi yue fen di si hao [October 4th cable], yi fen
dianbao dianwen 61 zi [one cable, 61 characters]. xianzai yijing
bowen wan le [now finished with broadcasting the cable].
Finally the whole broadcast is ended with the following words:

Comments from the Hans:
First a diclaimer: my Chinese is not perfect and Xin Xing's audio is
not that great, so I might have made minor mistakes in translation, or
in copying content (90% is correct though). Even my girlfriend had
trouble understanding the Chinese and she is a native speaker, so there
you go!
I don't want to give too many comments on this station. It seems a
spy station, packaged very nicely, but from where and for whom is
everybody's guess. The Mandarin used sounds like mainland Chinese
Mandarin, but it could as well be from Taiwan. The signal and audio
quality also point to mainland China, but then again, at night this
station is not audible in over here and so it points to Taiwan again.
Maybe it's not a spy station at all. I remember some years back there
was a German number station, also sounding very nice and everybody
thought it came from East Germany. Turned out to come from West Germany
and relaying results of horse racing (this was before the computer
networking craze and turned out to be cheaper and faster than other
means of distribution).

15683kHzのV. of Human Rightと16085kHzのFreedom for Iran, Egyptと多分Israelよりのclandestines, どちらもLP ladyとはたったの1kHz違い。
Each sent twice.

USB YL/EE/5FG in progress. First thought this was Lincolnshire
Poacher because each 5FG was repeated. But, when bcst ended at
1245 the tune played, on a clarinet-like organ stop, was not LP,
and was one with which I am not familiar. Rhythm in 4/4 time is in
two measures consisting of two eighth notes & a quarter note, two
eighth notes and a quarter note dotted quarter and three eighth
notes, and a quarter note rest. Tune repeated 6X. (RM)

Cherry-ripe, ripe, I cry,
Full and fair ones, come and busy;
If so be, you ask me where
They do grow? I answer: There.
Where my Julia's lips do smile.
There's the land or cherry isle.
Whose plantations fully show
All the year, where cherries grow
